Post by cornishfifer »

Hi
I have some more problems with my 2006 c5 2.0hdi
On my way home tonight a message came up on my dash display to say that the "particle filter level is low" on looking through this site I have read some scary stuff on particle filters, can anyone shed some light on this message for me?
Thanks

The DPF uses a special fluid to help reduce the burn off temperature. This is stored in an auxiliary 'tank' (it may in fact just be a bag) next to the fuel tank, and is injected into the tank after each refilling. My guess is yours has done 75-100k miles? You just need to get some fluid (or a new bag), change it over, and then get it on a Lexia to reset the counter. You need to act reasonably quickly, as if it actually runs out, then the DPF will pretty quickly get blocked up, and it's a downwards spiral from there  You can find the fluid from places, like GSF or Eurocarparts, or on e-bay, but there are several different types, so you need to make sure you get the right one. Oh, and filling it up is pretty nasty!

Hi Richard
My C5 has done 107k,i contacted my local citroen dealership and was told "as i have a high mileage vehicle" they would have to replace the filter to! at a cost of nearly £800!!!!!!!!!!
I have now sourced the fluid on ebay and a mate of mine will be filling and regening it
It will then be put up for sale, pity as it is generally a very good car but now want a change probably to a petrol saab 93

I'm all about Saabs as my name suggests but going to a petrol 9-3 is gonna be painful for ya. Fuel consumption is horrendous and parts are getting more and more difficult to come by now. If you must get a 9-3 a 1.9Tid.
I'd take the DPF off your C5 split it in half and jet wash the crap out of it, let it dry thoroughly, reassemble and put back on car, thats what i did 4 months ago and no problems since.

Agree with SaabC5.
My last car was a Saab 9-3 1.9 Tid Vector 150. (also with DPF) A lovely car, decent MPG and very quick. HOWEVER, the equipment level as standard ,was not exciting.

As said, although Saab UK are covering the parts supply, I think there was a period when no parts were being made, so some could be in short supply. I wanted a car with more toys, hence the C5, but the worry over spares for my Saab played a big part too.

I'm not thinking brake parts, or even engine spares (It was basically a GM /Vauxhall engine), more body panels, rear windows and accessories. If you are after an older Saab, then you are in the same boat as anyone with a car no longer in production, which is becoming a bit of a specialist market.

Hi Ricard....

WHY sell it ?? PDF,s are not a problem if the car is looked after, the system is simple, replacements (non dealer) are not that much....BUT...you need a specialist indie garage to make ANY 2nd hand car cost viable these days...it is not a Citroen thing at all.....try an Audi dealer if you wish to fall over in shock after very word they say !

BTW...there IS a VERY specific procedure to change the fluid and reactivate the system via a LEXIA...are you fully OK with it ?
