C5 suspension blowing 40amp maxi fuse

Post by Doully »

Hi All,

A few months ago I drove through a massive puddle, which stopped the suspension from working. After putting a post on this forum I discovered the 40 amp maxi fuse had blown. I replaced the fuse and the suspension started working again. I've notice recently that if I push the button to increase height of the suspension the 40 amp maxi fuse keeps blowing. Does anybody know why the fuse would keep blowing?

Model : - C5 2.0 HDI VTR 138bhp 2005

Kind regards,

Chris

Due to the water I'd suspect corrosion in the LS pump, which has happened to a handful of members.
Sometimes repairable but otherwise a replacement is called for. Again, several have bought second hand units from scrapyards.
If to change the ECU on it, you will need a Lexia to tell the car about the change before it will work.

Several threads connected to the suspension pump below, the first one being the most relevant.

The electric pump is still working and raises the car front and back, but then blows the fuse when trying to rise the car above the normal running position. If the electric pump had electrical damage then I wouldn't expect the suspension to work at all.

If its been soaked in water enough that it stopped working there could by now be corrosion in the pump causing it to seize up. If a DC motor seizes up it will draw a lot more current and potentially blow the fuse.
