Hmm. As you all know, my C5 has issues. It's not worth me paying to get it sorted and I don't have time or facilities to DIY it.
I don't doubt I can sell it as it is.
Thing is, I like C5s. I wanted a Ford or Honda but driving home in conditions more suited to a boat earlier, I realised I really like them.
Should I bite the bullet and risk another? I'd even have a 90HDi or a petrol one if it worked.

Re: Dilemma
I think so mike.. a 110 hdi cant remember what your current one is.. love mine and feels better in the bad weather..sturdy..
Ok i have had 2 main problems.. what turned out to be a failing pressure reg and at same time a destroyed crank pulley.. otherwise 1 1/2 years and 35000 miles of hauling me about..
John
Cost 695. Has leather and cruise added by me and 4 tyres...

Re: Dilemma
Why not a rather nice 1.9TD Xantia that's had plenty of the usual issues preventatively sorted and is a nice rare dark metallic grey colour?

Re: Dilemma
I'd be tempted by it Xac, but I'd need to spend more to sort the aircon for my nose/allergy problem, and I think I'm done with Xantias now. I couldn't do it justice, though it does look lovely.
John, mine's also a 110HDi manual. I would like one with leather, a working CD player and working aircon..

Re: Dilemma
leather easy Mike,,
CD player wouldn't be a pain..
aircon I am not sure about.. worst case is a second hand compressor maybe, and a recharge,,. but I don't know air con at all.,
is that all that's up wih it?

Re: Dilemma
Head gasket is the main problem, CD player doesn't work, half the dual-zone climate doesn't work reliably, dash pod doesn't work properly. I was referring to Xac's Xantia AC when I mentioned AC, mine works, it's not so cold, but it does work.jgra1 wrote:leather easy Mike,,

Bodily it's pretty nice apart from a smashed wheel arch liner and missing undertray.
Re: Dilemma
If you have the room to keep present one as a donor car, one serious option would be to buy replacement of the same model C5, with same engine = plenty of spares

Re: Dilemma
You should be able to get a fairly decent one off ebay for around £600 that's all I pay for mine.

Re: Dilemma
C5s are great when they work. One of my favourite cars. They're smooth, very stable and bags of grip. I like the interiors and they're very quiet on the motorway.
They are crazy when the electrics go mad though. I'm not really complaining about the head gasket as they're so rare to fail on this motor.
Not got room for 3 cars sadly so it'll have to go.

Re: Dilemma
Have a look at the auction houses, we sold a 53 plate 2.0HDi Exclusive with 112k and FSH for £450 just before xmas. Almost bought it myself.
