C5 electrics shut down then restart

Post by fatlozza »

Hi all. I had a prob with my automatic lights doing whatever they wanted, which eventually got to the point where I bought a new comms unit cos I didn't like the headlights coming on in broad daylight and then going out on the M40 as I drove home at midnight (paid £180 from Neat Autos, Valeo unit... a secondhand one was knocking £80-90, my garage in Oxford fitted it for a v small sum)*. All seemed fine till I drove home last night when ALL the electrics went out: whole dashboard, radio, works... engine kept going though, and it all came back in a few seconds, by which time I think I'd had kittens. Any ideas. I checked the battery this am, no loose connections that I can see. Can it be a loose fuse? Or is it something you guys have come across before.

*They went off even though I turned them on manually... :(

Sorry I don't know either, not having a C5, but it may help if you post up details of the car - good luck.

Check the battery voltage, should be around 14.4v with the engine running and just over 12 standing.

Almost certainly a COMM fault.

Loss of positive supply to the hub results in headlights, wipers coming on. My point is, it's not a simple supply voltage issue but control within the unit.
