Post by Diabolical »

My C5 06 facelift exclusive model headlight washers have come out and won't retract :?:

Tried switching headlights on and using screen wash to no avail :?:

Any C5 owners had this problem and how to solve it :?: wondering if could be sorted using Lexia :?:

Sorted: had a friend do windscreen wash I managed to push them back in when they stopped squirting, hope I don't have to do that each time.

Oit of curiosity do they spray automatically when you spray the windscreen or do you have to do something else?

Had this problem on one of my C4 headlight washers following prolonged hard frost a few winters back. I baulked at paying over £50 for a new one from Citroen so bit the bullet and dismantled it (front plastic valance/bumper has to come off to get at them on the C4). Basically the spring and internal gubbins had come adrift probably due to frost expansion however nothing was broken. It has been OK since but there is still the 'stiction' problem where the washers don't fully retract after use. My XM does the same.
On the C4 the headlight washers operate with the screen washers but only when the lights are on.

Well, they are operated by the water pressure, so it's likely to be just a blocked jet.

If they are anything like Saab headlamp washers they will be pressure operated only when the headlamps are on and the screen wash activated. What tends to happen is the plastic piston drys up over time and tends to stick in the up position. Try cleaning the piston and giving a liberal spray of silicon spray and operating the washers a few times to loosen up the piston again. You'll find you will probably need to repeat lubing every 6-8 months to keep them working.
