C4 Petrol 1.4 litre fuel filter

Post by aneesh84 »

Hi,

This question is regarding a 1.4 litre petrol engine from a 2004 C4 belonging to a friend.

He recently ordered a petrol filter

http://www.mister-auto.pt/pt/filtro-de- ... 2!161.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This seems to be inline.

1. Do petrol filters need to be periodically replaced on this car?

2. If Yes, then where is it located?

Regards
Aneesh

it likely wont have a fuel filter, if there is only one fuel pipe in the fuel rail then there is no fuel filter, just a strainer in the tank.

Okay thanks! So where does all the dirt in the fuel go? are these injectors more resistant to dirt than other cars?

There is a strainer in the tank on the pick up.

Yes but strainer is not fine like a filter. So I was wondering how come this petrol engine is okay with fine dirt while other engines are not!

I've read that the C4 petrol engines have a fuel filter but it's incorporated into the pump in the tank, however looking at Citroen service diagrams I can see an external fuel filter :? (Not sure if the forum allows posting of these diagrams ? )

The filter is shown to be on top of the petrol tank, the tank has a formed depression in it to house the filter. I assume that you would gain access to the filter from inside of the car, under the rear seats there is normally an access panel that lets you get to the fuel tank sender / pump, maybe you get to the filter via this or maybe it has its own access panel?

I would take a look under the rear seats and remove the access panel to see what you find.

If it does have a fuel filter I believe the one you linked to in your first post is the correct one.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers.

Thanks for that.

Let us know if you find a fuel filter or not.

There was no fuel filter in there. Just the fuel tank.

To add to the conversation, I have a petrol C4, and here is what you find beneath the rear seat cushion.

A black round cover,

Beneath the cover, is this, (it is a fuel pump, right?)

A closer look:

So the question still remains: Where is the fuel filter, on a petrol 1.4 C4 ?
Does anyone knows?

Thanks in advance

Maybe it is incorporated into the fuel pump.

Citroen service diagrams show a filter but maybe they have changed the design.

If I remember right it lists the filter but says something like for dusty climates or something to that effect ? Does it still show the filter if you check cit service with the VIN number ?

I can't recall seeing anything about dusty climates.

I haven't got a VIN for a petrol C4 to put in, with no VIN entered the list just shows all possibilities doesn't it?

The Haynes manual only mentions a fuel filter for diesel.

At Citroen service website, it shows the filter in the diagram, but, there is no OEM code in the right panel (see image, part 11).

Anyway, I think the filter is inside the fuel tank and is not subject to regular maintenance.
