Door? Noise

Post by c.morewood »

Having just passed the 270,000 miles, my door has started to make noises. At least I think its my door.. I had my son sit in the back seat last night and he agreed with me that it sounded like the driver door.
The noise: Worse in town every time I accelerate and break turn left or right with a little G force I get this clunk or click sometimes its quite deep and loud other times its a higher tone and barely audible.
I can't replicate it when the car is not moving. It sounds like if you'd released the door catch screws and were moving the door catch up and down to its limits.
I took the door apart today, convinced that there was something loose inside it.. maybe the window motor bolt that was loose and just moving a small amount in the hole (thats exactly what it sounds like) amplified by the hollow door. But there was nothing loose at all.
I even checked the wishbone P bush bolts as I had a similar noise last year from them.. but this is definately door or maybe sill related.
The only other option I can think of is that it might be the door its self moving on the worn door pins?
Has anyone else come across this?
It has definately got louder in the last week

Yes I have come across this and it is usually worn door hinge pins.

When they get worn they can make a click click noise.

I agree. Your sig says it's an estate and I recall these were the worst for hinge problems.

Thanks Guys,
I had a problem with the old Mk1 estate hinge welds but this Mk2 seems fine.. I'll replace the pins and see if that helps.
