Saxo EML on after exhaust renewal

Post by isisalar »

I knew I shouldn't have posted what a great little car the Saxo has been yesterday, after changing the exhaust Saturday. New after cat lamda probe was also fitted and all ok for the few miles since. This morning, first time it's got hot, can smell the paint starting to burn off, the eml light has come on. I've disconnected the battery for ten minutes and no change, apart from now having to dig out the radio code.
All probe connections seem good and no blows.
Could this be the paint burning off and it will clear, is there a reset procedure, or do I need to get it on a Lexia to see what's wrong?
Car is a 02 1.1i Desire.
Thanks chaps
Paul

Thanks Malcolm
Needed sensor in a hurry so no chance to research and shop around, got it from Jaystock for an eye watering £90, NGK one in local factors was £120.
Thing that puzzles me is that all was fine for Sat/Sun.
Sounds like a trip up the M1 for a Lexia session is needed.
Cheers

I bought a 30 quid one from ebay for a petrol picasso as Lexia told me one was duff, fitted it, ALL has been good for three months now, but on the picasso 1.6 theres two Lambdas, one up stream one down stream. Lexia even told me the down stream one was 60% ok so thats gonna need changing soon. No idea if little saxo 1.1's have an up and down stream sensor....

They do, it was the downstream one Paul, The piece of exhaust that it was attached to came off with it. I wish now I'd had a chance to have a go at getting the old piece in a vice and getting the old sensor off, car up on the ramp had to act quickly though.
Thing that's puzzling me is why the light only came on after a couple of days. My nearest Lexia is about 40 miles away, is it likely that the local garages own all makes system could 'talk' to the car?
My first experience of owning a car with a cat fitted and so far I'm not a fan.
Now need to get it serviced.

The fact that the EML is on is related to the new lambda is pure conjecture at the moment! You need to get it on a diag computer - a code reader will give a clue, but a Lexia should give more info.
