C5 Suspension

Post by nant »

Please help me im getting no where with the dealers.

My C5 exclusive has devolved a fault with its suspension. It came up on the dash with the service light and 'Suspension fault max 55mph' and over the past week the suspension has got lower and to the point now where its is catching speed bumps.

The level buttons inside the car do not raise or lower the car now the fault is displayed.

I refused to pay the dealer £80 just to plug it into their diagnostic machine and opted for an interdependent garage who charge £20.

The fault code was C1141 - Body height sensor front not categorized

I have called several dealers stating this fault code and every single one has refused to do any repairs until they have diagnosed the fault themselves as they do not believe it could be this sensor. They have also all said they would need the car for at least a day to diagnose the fault and at £95 per hour i think they are taking the p**s (excuse my language) but im getting really annoyed with the dealers just trying to squeeze unnecessary repairs to make money.

I wonder if the adjuster has failed, or popped its dog-bone clip off. The problem is getting to have a look.

If it is anything like a Xantia (I know, the Xantia is mechanical control while the C5 is electronic control) there should be a clamp on the anti-roll bar, a linkage, and then the height adjuster. The problem is that on a Xantia it is mounted down on the back of the front sub frame, so you have to get the car up high and supported to have a look, and, as you say, your C5 doesn't want to do that!

The best thing to do is to wait for somebody who is C5 knowledgeable to read this and offer better advise than mine.

£95 an hour? Are you sure you're in Yorkshire and not Knightsbridge?
How did you check the fluid level?
Can you hear the motor/pump running?
Have you checked the relevant fuses?

Always try a search as most topics have been covered on here. Different age car maybe, but the problems could be the same:-

Have you tried to use the diagnostics manuals from service.citroen.com?

One hour subscription is €5.20, or €23 for 1 day.

I have checked all the fluids except the steering fluid as it is housed in a black plastic and it states on it pressurized

If im correct the pump on the left hind side at the front, i can hear it turning and feel it vibrating and it is still running for about 30 seconds after the ignition has been turned off.

I have a work college (PCV fitter) having a look over a pit tomorrow to see if he can see anything visibly wrong.

It's quite common for the rear sensor here to wear out; couldn't rule the front one out of contention on this basis.
