Warm air to the cabin within about three or four minutes. Heated seats in about a minute. No real hardship . I've had petrol cars that took a lot longer.

I have just bought a 2000 Xantia est. HDI 90.Has anyone tried running an 88 thermostat in the winter? I know it won"t
speed up the warm up, but I can drive around London for 30/40 mins. 1st 2nd 3rd, stop and repeat, and the bottom hose is barely warm. I had 2ltr petrol VSX prior to this and had no hesitation in changing "stat for winter, but I"ve never had an HDI before.

My HDi 90 Berlingo is blowing out warm air within about a mile of me leaving the house. As Peter says, it's to warm me up, not the engine.

Problem with using the remote unit from the RR is that it'll kill anything other then a very good battery.

It's a gamble for a lot of RR owners as to wether or not the car will start in the morning after the heaters been on! At least on the Citroen it will only run when the car is running which will stop the battery issues.

Do the C8's have one of these aux heaters hidden anywhere?

My commute is short so the car spends about 80% of its time driven with the engine cold.

My C8 has one, But can't find any information on whether it was standard and on what spec level they featured. If you have one and it's working it sounds like a tiny jet engine towards the front near side. Mine works as I get warm air within a short distance from home.

I'm toying with the idea of setting a parking heater that uses the existing equipment.

Good idea Andy but unfortunately you would need the engine running or another means of pumping the water round. They use another version of that type of heater for warming lorry cabs.

As far as I know all the diesel C8's have Webasto coolant heaters as standard. It's located underneath the car. You can see a little exhaust pipe coming out of the unit with Webasto stamped on it.

Our Synergie HDi has a Webasto preheater fitted, used to work really well, then it started blowing plumes of smoke out of its 'exhaust pipe' behind the front wing, then it stopped working altogether. If I had a clue how to repair it I would. Now it takes 5 miles before the temp gauge even moves...

You should be able to get one from a scrapper for not to much money.

If it is like the heater fitted to some Xantea it could be a glow plug issue. The smoke you described seems similar to that which occurs when you try and start a diesel engine with failing glow plugs.

Hi,yes the Hdi takes a good while to warm up for sure. The technology to warm a car speedily has been available for years.V W made a model called ,I believe, the Variant in the 60's. It was air cooled, and used the oil though a heat exchanger to warm the interior. It could be warmed via a small heater in the sump controlled by a timer to come on ready for the owner to get heat upon starting. Simples. Saved wear and gave comfort

Pity they couldn't have put it in a better looking car though. My neighbour had two. One was a fastback (Coupe)? and the other was a squarish ,estate thing. Christ the were ugly.

Problem that most of the RR owners face is that they dont bring their batteries back to full thanks to short trips and more often than not the batteries are still the original one.

Most replace the 90/100ah standard one with a nice Bosch/Varta S5 020 110ah jobby that is more than upto it for a full 30minute burn and dont forget it also turns both front and rear HVAC systems onto full power as well.

if the RR is covered in snow and you run the Remote Park heat the interior and windows get more than warm enough to start the snow and ice melting even when quite thick :)

Yes it has the webasto heater. I think there are some companies that sell kits to add onto the existing equipment with timers and an extra water pump. But it seems maybe a little unnecessary as it warms up quickly enough. Would make an interesting project if times allows though.
