C5 Estate Rear Window

Post by NickW »

I have a 2006 C5 LX Estate 1.6 HDI. I'm sure there is a window in the tailgate but I can't seem to find a way of opening it. I wondered if it was only there on better equipped models, but there are hinges for it, and when pushing it out a little, there is clearly daylight and rubber trim for a window.
Is there a knack to opening it, or some kind of automatic locking that may not be working?

There's a switch under the end of the rear wiper... well known however, for the switch or the wiring (or both!) to go West and it stop working.

In mine tailgate glass doesn't open because of malfunctioning micro switch. This has been already been informed to me by the previous owner. I never needed it and never bothered about it :) It stays locked and that's important.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I have tried the switch and can hear it clicking but nothing else, so I guess I have the 'malfunctioning switch' syndrome. I don't really need it, but knowing it's there makes we want to be able to use it!

We have two C5s in the family and the rear window doesn't open on either of them. I'm going to sort them both the next time I get a sunny Saturday and I'll take pictures and write up the overhaul for all to see.

Just a point but if anyone does read the extremely helpful openingc5.pdf relating to fixing the estate's (non-) opening window, the 3rd pic down says to "push down" but it would be more logical to say "push up" as, when activated, the solenoid release arm is driven upwards towards the catch to release it, not downwards.
