Got a headlamp bulb blown on the C5

Post by Napoleon »

And posting this thread is the first thing I have done to get the ball rolling towards getting it fixed.

It's the sort of thing I want to do myself. Anyone got any pointers to suppliers please, and also to fitting one?

It's the left hand headlamp that's u/s.

Cheers in advance.

Another BUMPER OFF JOB ...

That's the typical advice but so far I managed to replace headlight bulbs 3 times without removing the bumper 8-)

If your C5's the newest model ('09 or later), and in case you don't have Xenon's, I can assure you each lightbulb for both headlamp units can be easily replaced, without taking the bumper off or other extreme measures ... the only activity you have to do before is remove the rubber lids on the back off the headlamps ... :) ... although, smaller hands would come in handy ...

Saw your comments on a thread on this subject from 2006!

Anyway, best advice might be to buy the bulb from Halfords and let them do the job - is the fitting for free at Halfords or do they charge for the pleasure? I'm sure a regular garage would charge the earth.

We have established that Halfords do not "do" the C5 Facelift or later models...they have a list :)

Yes, Halfords charge £6+ to fit a bulb, but they don't do the C5, (or any car that you couldn't do yourself in 5 minutes)
Be careful of advice on removing the bumper etc. The X7 is a different beast, and too much advice is from guys with earlier cars with totally different procedures. Not sure if there is a difinitive procedure on the forum for changing a headlight bulb on the X7, but certainly there was advice to remove the bumper to change DRL and side lights which was subsequently proved to be wrong by one owner.

Sometimes the change doesn't work.

Hopefully I'll be the second one to prove that for the DRLs ... :D ... or die trying ... if by sidelights you mean the ones that light up when you turn the steering wheel in some direction, then I can also say it is possible to replace the bulbs on them, done it myself ...

and when they tried on a face lift model they pulled the bulb retaining wore clip clean of the back of the head lamp, the owner told them to get away from his car befopre they did more damage,

the side lights are the ones which run all the way along the top of the head lamp, on the face lift version at least
