Locking nuts for OE Alloys

Post by osx »

Need to get new ones as the locking key is getting worn and one of the 3 pins has broken. Got the part number from Citroen (new ones would cost £45) but wondering if there are any compatible ones out there.

Put some normal bolts on, they are £2.10 each.
No one is going to steal your alloys :)

What is the point of paying £10 for normal bolts when you can get locking ones for less :?:

Almost all are for aftermarket alloys which are not guaranteed to work with OE alloys.

First thing I do with cars with locking wheel nuts now is dispose of them. They're more trouble than they're worth.

Who's going to steal any alloys these days? They're so common it's just not worth it.

Going off a couple of friends recent experiences with their newish VAG motors, the thieves break into the house, take the keys and the whole car. One lot of friends recently got broken into while they slept, her 11 plate Golf and his 12 plate Audi S4 disappeared into the night.

It's possible to have it both ways.

Buy new hex bolts, and grind the points almost off, so the socket nearly spins. Fit them with a rattle gun, until the socket starts slipping.

You now have non-locking nuts that are equally theft and user-proof as the genuine article.

If I really wanted locking nuts, I'd probably get some McGard ones. All over Fleabay.

I wouldn't mind ditching my locking wheel bolts for normal ones, where would I get 4 Xantia alloy wheel bolts ?

Neats, GSF, Eurofakeparts, Louth's... They're about £2.99 each from memory.

They can age, the washer is actually cupped high tensile/spring steel. I've seen a modest number washerless or with a split washer from persistent wallering - presumably at the hands of tyre monkeys.

One of my normal wheel bolts is missing the washer and on a second the washer is flat and no longer captive...
