engine noise

Post by C5MADDRIVER »

My 91 reg C5 has developed an engine noise I can only describe as the sound of a fly wheel spinning when I apply the gas when I reach the desired speed and come of the gas slightly the noise disappears. A garage said it could be cam problems. Any advice on what it could be

At a guess, I would say your crank damper is failing. As you are an admitted novice, please leave this to a competent garage - it's not especially hard or time-consuming but you don't want to accidentally wind the motor backwards in the repair process.

Typical Fleabay search: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sop=2 ... ondition=3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can identify your motor "code" by looking at the VIN. After VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff], there are two letters - probably "DC". The three letters after these two are your engine code (typically, things like RHZ or RHR for a 2.0 diesel). The correct motor code is essential to choosing the pulley.

Cor do C5's have a cush drive on their pulleys? Thats a bit posh isnt it?
