Roof bars C5 lx estate

Post by NickW »

I've a mind to add roof bars to my 2006 C5 lx estate. Is it an easy job or do I have to tear out the roof lining inside?

Not sure about the model but isn't there a couple of small flaps each side of your roof, open them and you'll find what your looking for. Below shows a fitting kit:

They are the cross bars....on the estate you have the Long Rails.....I think that's what he meant

I do mean the long rails. Thanks, diabolical, but I do have some lined up from a breakers yard for £30 + £10 p&p. the question was, can I just bolt them in from the top, or do I have to get under the headlining inside?

I will have a look in the morning for you (if I can see without ripping stuff down to far), certainly the rearmost supports will need the headlining dropping, but that's easy....get some spray contact adhesive ready for when you put it back up.
The front ones you may be lucky and get to them via the screen pillar plastic cover, the middle, we will see whats under the plastic covers.

Maybe ? ....never really looked..both my estates have bars. do you have blanking plugs in the roof (never seen an estate without bars)....otherwise is it a drill job I wonder ?

Yes, there are three blanks on each side which slide aside.

I fitted them on a Xantia estate lift up flaps and sliders slot in and roof rails screw in, not sure if the same with c5, however I thought all c5 estates came with roof rails.

OK....checked mine , there are cover plugs in the roof RAILS....it looks like that they do screw in from above....they (the plugs) are in-line vertically so I would even bet that under these plugs are Torx screws/bolts.
