Some C5 buying advice.

I would appreciate some advice, please.
I’ve seen a 2007 C5 HDI 138 bhp 2ltr automatic for sale locally and it looks ok, at least in the photographs. It’s done less than 40k miles.
I know that the HDI is generally ok and I’m not worried about that. I would like to know the following: -
What is the cam belt change mileage/time interval on this engine?
Has it got a fap filter or Eolys fluid anti pollution system or other system?
Is the autobox (6 speed) generally ok and what maintenance does it need or should it have had?
Is it a 6 disc audio system? (Not critical but I would like to know)
What other things, apart from the obvious checks on what works should I look at?

Some idea of a sensible dealer forecourt value would be nice, too.

100,000 or ten years. Recommend drop that to 70-80,000 or 7 years for safety

Yes, Fap + Eolys. NO problem generally, unless you are just going to do city driving.

Is the autobox (6 speed) generally ok and what maintenance does it need or should it have had?
It is the Japanese AM6 gearbox. It's pretty good; supposed to be sealed for life but fluid changes tend to benefit it.

Is it a 6 disc audio system? (Not critical but I would like to know)
Yes. Check the changer works

What other things, apart from the obvious checks on what works should I look at?
Regular engine oil changes with a low SAPS oil.
Parking sensors work
Tyre pressure monitors work
Rear brakes are not seized; raise wheels and turn.
Front-operated handbrake is not binding.
Xenons all work (lamps are £1,300 each from Citroen)
Speedo works and the needle has not dropped below the zero marker (an easy fix if it has)
The on/off push button on the stereo (presuming it's not got sat nav) works.
The folding mirrors work and have not been bashed.
The seats' folding armrest locks
Check the air con works
Check the temperature on both sides go hot and cold. The C5 II had the Peugeot 407 heater box and the internal flaps break, which is a very time consuming and expensive repair.
Knocking from front suspension from either ball joints or drop links.

I wouldn't mind a late C5 but wouldn't be able afford to run one - especially an auto. The early ones are so much simpler and easier to work on, the parts are much cheaper too.

What is it up for, price wise? You could put the reg in What car for a free valuation but as we all know these do depreciate heavily. To get a good idea scan the auto trader and ebay.

They are just as good on fuel. Remember: More BHP in DERV engines these days does NOT mean higher fuel consumption. And GET an Auto, they are 6 speed AUTOS, and theres no mechanical Loss connection between the revs and drive! Modern auto box's are nothing like the older mechanical ones!! You be suprised, I reckon the autos wil do as well as the manuals, especially haveing the same number of gears!

Where ELSE are you gonna get THIS BARGAIN 5 year old Exclusive 6 speed 2.0 138bhp.. for £3295..

I KNOW what ill be getting next!

I will take your word for it Paul but the later engines seem to be more complicated than the 8 valve ones.

The 2 litre is psa engine.. the fuel pump is driven off the end of the cam shaft.. a belt change is like dooing an 8v petrol single cam change as the inlet cam is driven bycan internal chain.. theres LOADS of room in the engine bay.. they are prooving to be a good unit with little to no issues the turbo is on the back as always theres less to no 2.0 16v in the spares repair section..

Its a bloody good follow up to thd 8v engine peter.. ill be having one when the time comes no question.. and they go like f.....

Well you convinced me to have the early one Paul so I will keep an open mind - I just remember what my 2.2 was like to work on.

Thanks for the feedback so far. The car is advertised for £4750 on the dealer's forecourt. Doing some internet searching it seems to be overpriced but it is low mileage for the year. I have to decide if it is worth going to look at. Maybe a phone call to start with discussing price.

To get a real world price look on ebay, you can see what people are actually prepared to pay for them, although you will pay a bit more to a dealer as hopefully you will get a decent guarantee.

That seems very dear for one, I always pick my cars up at auction like traders do, you get much more for your money that way, just a case of knowing what your looking for
