I took the Peugeot 605 in for its MoT yesterday and it failed on two things. OS headlight bulb (which blew during the test) and when they did the emissions test, they couldn't get it above 2500rpm and the engine wasn't quite right on 2500rpm. The annoying thing is that it was fine the day previous.
They asked me if I'd like to come down and have a tinker to see if I can get it working and I did the following:
Stuck a clear pipe from a diesel container, through a priming bulb then an inline filter in to the Bosch pump. All the lines were free of air - no change
Replaced the leak off pipes between the injectors and the end bung - no change
Pressed the priming bulb while the engine was running on idle - idle noise changed slightly
Pressed the priming bulb while the engine was revving - revved freely for a few seconds then went back to being lumpy
Sometimes if I turn the engine off using the key it takes from a couple of seconds to 10 seconds or so for the engine to actually stop
My theory is that I've been a bit unlucky and the pump has blown its seals!
What with the XM, I don't have the time or space to be tinkering so I'm going to let the garage sort this one out. If they confirm it is the pump, can I just take the pump off the 1.9 TD Xantia and get them to stick it on the 605 as a temporary measure?
Am I right in saying that they don't need to touch the cambelt and injection pump sprocket?

Could it be a sticking stop solenoid? I had a ZX 1.9TD with exactly the same problem, it was the stop solenoid on the pump sticking.

Re: Using a XUD9 injection pump on an XUD11
You will need the "Absolute Correct" 1.9 Pump firstly, only found on K or L reg Xantia/306..
That assuming the 605 is a FULLY mechanical setup with NO ECU for the advance on the pump.
After that, the fueling on the 1.9 pump will need a lot of adjustment, prehaps just turning up to run right as the 2.1 uses a bit more fuel per stroke over the 1.9.. So in Theroy Kev, NO it wont be as simple as remove and fit to the 605.

Re: Using a XUD9 injection pump on an XUD11
Just had a thought, my Xantia pump is semi electronic anyway! Damn.
There is a Lucas pump left over from the replacement XM engine which could be another temporary option. Trouble is though, I don't know if its any good. Might just wait and see what they say. Getting the pump resealed may not cost too much! !

Lucas pump will need a complete reposition setting done.. in that the studs the pump bolts onto would need re positioning on the back plate. The stop solinoid is the item with the single wire going to it directly above the four pipes which come out of the pump end.. and no the lucas one wont fit the bosch one.

Re: Using a XUD9 injection pump on an XUD11
To the right hand side just above the injection lines.
Is it difficult to start? Can you check the main fuel screw. I had a similar problem once and when I removed the pump I noticed that the lock nut for the main fuel screw was loose and the screw had unwound by some undetermined amount, which I think was the root of my problem. The fact that the engine won't rev sounds like it isn't getting sufficient fuel to do so.
I'd be tempted to get the pump off the car and get someone knowledgeable to take it to bits. I bet any worn or faulty items could be sourced from other VE family pumps. New seals at the same time (about £15) and that would be better than a second hand item of unknown origin.

I see, might have to bite the bullet and get the pump resealed by the pros if they can't temporarily seal it up.

Big sniff!
I've just realised that getting the diesel specialist to reseal my pump might be expensive too! I hope to god that the pump can be temporarily sealed externally!

Kev, what pump is it?
DON'T use the one off the old engine as they suffer badly if unused for any length of time.
Ditto any pump with an unknown provenance. Overhaul first. I might be able top do that for you.
I'm sure Team WFA can help here, just let us know...
If it's a Lucas then it's easy...
Don't for get the CCC has some gash Lucas pumps going for silly money. BNIB too...
