C5 (R16!!!) wheels for Xantia?

Post by pseud »

Hello folks

Are there any issues sticking a set of 2002 C5 alloy wheels on a xantia. On the C5 they take 205 x 65 x R15, so I assume they're the same dimensions as on the Xantia V6 which has 205 x 60 x R15's. I just wonder about wheel nuts and fitting etc?

Many thanks,
Morgan.

They share all the same dimensions

PCD 4x108mm Bolt M12x1.25 Hub Centre 65.1mm, you'd have to check the offset to make sure nothing rubs or use a spacer if there is a difference.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

Thanks Stempy, Offset between hub and rim I assume - rubbing of tyre on wing etc?

Re: C5 (R16!!!) wheels for Xantia?

Now that I've gone and had a look at the Mk1 C5 Exclusive (which is all laid up and ready to go to the insurers with brand new Michlen's all round, ouch - salvaging hard earnt cash being my primary concern, initially anyway) I see it's the R16 variant, not R15.

So, the tyres on those wheels are 215x55xR16.
According to this:
http://www.etyres.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It's still ony 3.5% oversize - 2.5% is etyres advised max; and 50 profiles are bang on. (Hmm, except no one seems to make a 215x50xR16...)

So, the crazy question is now, has anybody been silly enough to try sticking a set of C5 16" rims on a Xantia and what's the answer?

(btw, 16" rims aren't discussed in the referenced thread)

I think 215 is too wide for Xantia. It might fit but in full lock tyre might contact car body.
Since Xantia specs says its 185 you can easily go up to 195. I would have thought max 205.
Another concern would be how the gearbox/transmission will like the 215

Ah, worked out how to change the topic title - edit first post subject.

Thanks VertVega, 205x60xR15's are standard for the Xantia too - standard on the V6 and Activa (perhaps others?).

I guess the best way to find out is to stick 'em on and see what happens... (Slowly!) Happy to take advice.

According to this thread, the 406 takes 205/55/16's so 215/50/16's must be getting close...

Keeping to a similar rolling radius will help avoid fouling the bodywork/suspension (subject to tyre width), but you'll also need to keep an eye on the wheels' offset, as this could also cause "conflict".

The offset on my Xantia TD's wheels is 15mm (5 1/2J steel), though Xantia alloys are I think 6J with possibly 18mm offset. A year ago, I saw an advert photo for a Xantia with the Mk 1 C5 alloys fitted, so assume they fitted OK, though I never inspected the car. My winter tyres are on 15" steelies off a Picasso with 18mm offset and they fit fine.

On the steel wheels, the offset is inscribed into the rim of the wheels with the letters ET (eg. ET18), though you may have to use a bit of emery to derust first. Otherwise you'll have to take measurements and calculate the offset yourself

From Peugeot 406 case I remembered my experience of Peugeot 15" steel wheel which I bought
from a scrap yard. It had also 4 holes for the studs BUT in Xantia there are actually another set of
4 smaller holes for the rear brake disk fixing screw. So I drilled a small size, the 5th hole for that :)
measured the diameter from other wheel and marked the position and drilled.
Finally some sandpaper and paint completed the job.

This challenge is only for the steel wheel case and alloys don't have this problem I guess.

Thanks guys,

Clearly a case of suck'n see. Will post results when I have them. The ref to the Xant ad with C5 wheels is inspiring; and I can use a power drill! Hopefully no such surgery will be needed, but I've got to work out this offset business...
