£200 doesn't sound too bad knowing your guaranteed to get the van on the road next day. beats having the van stuck on axle stands on the drive for days as you get more and more stuck. Ive seen oxy sets needed to get the circlip out and the inner race off the drive flange. if your lucky hammer and drifts can do the job and cut the inner off the drive flange with a grinder
kissing the lash
white van (turbo, computer and built by Citroen, what could possibly go wrong!)
orange 2cv
blue 2cv( been to the Sahara and back)
red Dyane( in bits)
Skoda (thank goodness there is a teutonic vehicle on the drive)
Stainless Siemens fridge freezer

Sounds excessive to me. Last wheel bearing I had done was on a Focus late in 2012, cost me £88 all inclusive at the local Ford independent specialist. It was the front left.

To be honest yes it would be easier to take it to the Garage, But My Wife is self employed and the Van is a Friday afternoon one !! And has cost my wife loads of money over the last 2 years !! Gearbox rebuild 9 months ago was £1500 on its own !! So I try to do the work myself where I can, like 2 weeks ago when the air suspension went and I converted it to springs cause it was cheaper than sorting the air suspension out !.

So if it takes me all day and have no knuckle skin left then so be it. !

Also is the Hub nut 35mm ?

Thanks

I wouldn't upset him (even if he's wrong). I suspect that the problem is that (once again) legislation and resulting regulations have become so complex that it comes down to a matter of opinion or where you look, though there are plenty of myths in the garage trade.

Regardless of the MoT status, it's illegal to drive an unroadworthy and therefore uninsured vehicle.

I must admit I always thought that a Fail Notice and the details are now also recorded by the DVLA on the central computer records hence my accepting of his comment....that said government systems are a laugh. BUT, ?? Do the insurance companies have access to such details I wonder ?

Ask the Police and they will tell you an MOT is not evidence of road worthiness
