Xantia mk1 boot wont open. Solenoid/mechanism?

Post by reanimation »

Here we go haha. I'm doing a lot of moving at the mo at work, and home plus my partner is due to give birth 'soon' enough and her hospital case is in the boot! It had to happen didn't it!

I'm going to climb in the boot and pull out the trim and start poking around and try undo it...

the solenoid has always been really noisy and now sort of whines, and that whine has turned into almost silence!

The rear lock has a key hole but still doesn't open! :D =D> #-o

The solenoid is - from memory - nothing special; it may even be the same as the fuel flap locking one.

Why can't your missus just give birth in the boot? Would be simpler (less panicked driving), and the suitcase is already there...

That is an idea, I'll pass it on later. :-X :D

I ditched the fuel flap solenoid a few years ago for a manual locker! :D

I don't know if it is the same, but on an S2 you have a solenoid that acts on a collar around the button. In the open position the collar lines up in such a way as to transmit the button to the latch, while in the locked position the button isn't linked to the latch.

When you lock/unlock the car, listen at the boot. Is there any noise? Gracie did this to me once, and when it cleared I popped off the trim and cleaned the collar and button. That seems to have resolved it.
