Looking for a mechanic with welding - Wigan area

Post by rudy691 »

Hello.

I am looking for somebody that would not cost me an arm and a leg for some welding job. I need welding on both sill panels on my Xsara Picasso 52 reg, as it failed MOT on this.

It's a common fault on the Picasso Paul - ours was only 7 years old when I noticed it, and it was a biiiiiig hole!! There's a design / construction fault which blocks the drain and rots the sill from the inside out. Citronut posted up a link a few weeks ago for a supplier of replacement sills. Shouldn't be too expensive to fix, depending on how much you want to hide it - ours just had a plate welded over the top, and the sill blacked over.

Don't really need it to be pretty, just need to get it done.

@RichardW - yes, I've been told this is a problem with them. I can't really afford changing cars now as been out of job for over 2 months and only just got one :/ I'm telling you - this was one bad year I had...can't wait for it to be over.

i lopped a pi*s*scasoooooo sill off a week ago, and found the drain holes to be blocked solid with the rubberised under body coating the factory apply to the undercarriage,

there are quite a few stories of serious rot/rust to pi*s*scasoooooo's

you can buy a replacement full sill for them, cost around £60 quid delivered from

http://www.carz2.co.uk/citroen-c-69.htm ... 25dsuqdbe7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

the sill is not listed on there web site but they are very nice people to deal with

that looks like it will require a complete sill as it will be the stone guard coating holding it together,

as the one i have just done,

its quite a major job on these as all three pillar to sill joint's are seem less

Do they have High Strength Steel reinforcers in the sill and hinge areas of the pillars? Curious to see some pictures of the next one you cut open.

not in the outer sill i replaced Adam,
but the sill is three skins the inner then a second inner and the outer,

im also sure this sever rust on these is not mainly due to tyre monkeys wrongly jacking them up,
but because the drain holes are blocked up at the factory, definitely on the one i just did anyhow
