Xantia Forte Estate built in 2000

Post by AustinB »

Hi folks.

The old girl is laid up needing a nearside rear suspension cylinder. Any ideas where I might find one?

Hi Austin

Welcome along =D>

There is a problem with the rear suspension units on cars built around this time - in that they came with a different pipe connection and are no longer available :( . Can you confirm the RP number of the car (which gives the build date) - it should be painted on the bulkhead behind the OS front suspension strut. See this thread which gives links to one by C.morewood who had trouble, and the 'wrong' type of cylinder http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... 11&t=44218" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Happily, it's relatively easy to convert to the std type of cylinder - but you will need a new pipe. New cylinders are available from Citroen, but are £160  Otherwise it's a breaker.

Austin,
It depends on your RPO (manufacturing date) number as to what suspension cylinder you need.
You'll find the RPO number in front of the stering wheel in the engine compartment on the firewall.
Just behind the sphere there's a lip in the firewall which the bonnet seal rests on. You need to get down to the level of the top of the wing to be able to read the 4 painted NUMBERS just above the stamped numbers. For your age of car the numbers should start with 8.
I've got the larger 8209-8518 fitting cylinders and I know where you can get a couple of the other smaller ones.

Thanks! The car is at the garage so will need to check the number. It's good news to know that a conversion is possible, though!

Will post details over the weekend.
