I recently bought a Xantia 1999 HDI. I was surprised to find a small white fluid reservoir in front of the LHM tank saying "use only brake oil". I thought LHM was used for braking.
I found another picture of Xantia HDI chassis and have circled it.

Can you please check and tell me what exactly is this!
What is this small fluid reservoir in Xantia

Another picture where i find that tank. However in many other pictures on on the internet i dont see it.
Have citroen separated the brake circuit in some Xantias?

Re: What is this small fluid reservoir in Xantia
I'd say that's the reservoir for the hydraulic clutch sealed system. On my Xantia HDI 110 it's fitted in a different place. You are correct, the brakes DO use LHM.
....but, this clutch reservoir in your pictures does use conventional DOT 3 or DOT 4 hydraulic fluid NOT LHM.
Trust Citroen to use two different types of hydraulic fluid

Re: What is this small fluid reservoir in Xantia
Xantia 110 HDIs have a hydraulic clutch, on UK models it lives behind the engine near the doseur valve, on your Left drive model it must live there, my UK car has nothing in that place.
BXs since 1993 built 1.9 TZD turbo, got a S2 Xantia estate, brilliant car! 2013, Xantia HDI LX 110 2000 new car with 122,000, l C2 HDI Rusty rocket, C3 Picasso HDI new to me.
Re: What is this small fluid reservoir in Xantia
I checked it is full. Does it need changing of oil at specific intervals?
Also I had a MK1 xantia before it, and the effort required to push the clutch pedal was same. Is the hydraulic clutch supposed to make pushing the clutch pedal softer?

heavy clutch pedal usually means the clutch is on its last legs,aneesh84 wrote:I checked it is full. Does it need changing of oil at specific intervals?

The actual clutch mechanisem is supposed to be a cometely sealed unit with no provision or need to top it up .. certainly on uk cars anyway ..
Theres is a small black topup/vent pot on rhd cars right next to the master cylinder on rhd cars..
