Xantia Radio Steering Wheel Controls

Post by gadgetgricey »

Firstly apologies for the number of questions this afternoon, trying to sort out a few things on my new Xantia and its fighting me at every turn :-D .
Previous owner had fitted a single DIN stereo, so looking to return to standard Citroen Stereo and Multidisc. (which I happened to have in the spare car, dont ask  )

Three multi plugs, but the third one is different.

Main two fit without issue, and now have working radio/CD etc, but cannot control via Steering wheel as different plug.

Old Plug appears to have three wires, and new plug has four and is a totally different fit/design.

Was hoping I might be able to remove and then "rewire" old plug, so that the functionality works in the new vehicle.

Poor quality phone pics below so you get the idea.

Old connection that works: (3 wires)

New connection that does not fit. (4 wires)

Thanks again

Have you definitely got the right radio for your car? S1 and S2 radios are not compatible to my knowledge.

Not sure.....
The Radio supplied with the car is exactly the same as the one I've fitted, but obviously that would have the same issues with the connectors.
They are both S2 cars though???

Weird huh.

theres a change in S2 Radios Dave.

S2 Xantias had the "Faceia Flush" radios fitted up to around 2000 or late W reg cars, then X and Y reg cars were switched to a Single Din with Front Flap Radio from factory, unless a CD changer was fitted.

The Single Slot DIN radio is a phillips radio and uses a different type of TOP connector for the Steering controls to the "Facia Fitted" radio that uses a Clarion unit and the same plug as earlyer Blaupunkt cars, but are NOT compatible for Steering controls..

I knew you would know Paul.

So a single DIN Philips radio would work with my connections (to get the steering wheel controls working), but do you know if the current Clarion CD changer would also work with the Philips.

Very much doubt it as two manufacturers, but thought I'd ask.

Cheers

the small square plug is infact one third of a 3 part plug that fits the phillips radios only..

I might have the "Clarion" plug in a loom in the shed... and possibly make a join..

One of the few "Unseen" mods made into production end....

No Dave. The Clarion needs to be controled by the Clarion head unit...

So we need to make a "Conversion" some how by copying from another slightly earlyer Xantia. Might be able to do something sunday if you have time to hang about..

The Flap unit needs swapping for the "Facia Fit" plastic cage too..

Cheers for the offer Paul, but its no real issue for me.

Obviously have got the compatible Clarion plug in the spares car, but what concerns me is that there are three wires going into the Clarion black plug, and four wires going into the Philips Yellow plug.

Could join wires together, but what connects to what, and what to do with the spare one.

Cheers

Ok.
So the audio control cable is different, but are the other two cables wired differently as well?

Stereo was working fine in car 1 (with the black cable), and works in car 2 (with the yellow cable), but will not keep the code. Have to input the four digit code every time. Had hoped to use this one, but combination of this and the lack of steering wheel controls means this might be a time to change.

Cheers
