Early Xantia Driveshafts (lack of)

Post by x1henry »

Hi all,

My 1993 Xant has an outer CV joint that is donald duck'd. Although it's the (expensive) long one (shaft) I'm inclined to fit a complete new shaft as it's the original and maybe the rest of the shaft isn't too far behind. Only trouble is I can only find shafts for sale for '95 onwards Xants :( GSF, Euro, CP4L and Mr Auto don't appear to stock them for my year (waited 15 min on hold for CP4L to be told they don't sell them).

Anyone had the same problem? Anyone have a solution (besides rebuilding the shaft)?? I am praying shafts are still available for the early type BE? gearbox ...

Many thanks,
Henry

BE3 gear box's were fitted right through the Xantia Series one eira. The difference I have found is the OUTER daimeter of the CV joint. IE: Theres a small CV joint size and a larger one.

Ive got used early shafts in good order, but never really had shaft issues with Xantia shafts. If the CV Boots are kept in good order and never split and loose the grease they can have a long life.

Also is yours an LX with NO abs or SX with ABS..

Cheers guys, my Xant is an LX (pas de ABS) and, with the car in the air (on lift), spinning the wheel produces a load of 'orrible clicking sounds and when driving sounds like spuds being shaken round in a plastic barrel.
The Chassis/VIN codes are the same apart from the chassis has a 0 on each end of it so: VIN last 8: 048A8711 and chassis: 48A87110. Hope this is good, Malcolm and pls excuse any 'duh'ness from this end.
PS Monroe or Febi/Bilstein spheres?
Best,

Henry
