BX GTi erratic idle!!!

Post by cookingfat »

Hi
Can anyone HELP? My GTi some times idles at 2000rpm, after hard acceleration, or hunts 1500 - 3000, occasionally revs to 4000 - 5000, hairy driving!!!
Often after a rest it will be normal, but occasionally it remains high when restarted.
Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated[:)]

A faulty (worn) throttle potientiometer is known to give this indication.
It's a flat device located at the end of the throttle flap axle.
What happens is that the resistive carbon track is worn down to the white plastic base by the slider - clearly seen when disassembled.
