Hi All
The hand brake on my xantia extate HDI, Y reg appears to be losing its affect, as i have to pull the hand brake up a few more notches than normal to stop it rolling backwards.
I have read the Haynes manual and it says to check the hand brake compensator if the hand brake cables are adjusted, but where is this compensator located? is under the car or do i have to remove the centre console?
I 've also read you have to press firmly on the brakes without the hand barke appplied so they can self adjust but this has made no difference.
Any help appriciated as the MOT is next month.
Cheers Ade

Ade,
It is probably the hand brakes cable or cables are goosed.I would just replace both, not a hard job.

Re: xantia Handbrake
to adjust the front calipers/hand brake mechanism up you do in deed park the car on level ground, release the hand brake, engine running, now press very hard on the brake pedal a three to four times,
do not stamp on the pedal though, just very hard pressure is all you need,
never adjust cables till the mechanism in the calipers have been adjusted first,
dont belive all in the BOL ( book of lies )
