BX Steel 14" wheels - do they fit a Xantia hub?

Post by ecohouse1 »

I have been offered some free new tyres with a very high profile tyres (total outer diameter 25") which fit a 14" rim. The existing 195/65 R15 on the Xant are 24.5" outer diameter - so thinking of fitting the new tyres to the 14" rim and then sticking them on the Xant? Overall - looks like they are more or less the same. I am not a fast driver, will I notice a difference and will the BX wheel fit a Xant hub? Cheers, Alan

I believe earlier Xantias were on 14" rims, I would think that as long as theres clearance for the front calipers then they should be okay, fit a front one and see.
BXs since 1993 built 1.9 TZD turbo, got a S2 Xantia estate, brilliant car! 2013, Xantia HDI LX 110 2000 new car with 122,000, l C2 HDI Rusty rocket, C3 Picasso HDI new to me.

As Stuart said, and if it's a bit tight you can always fit a wheel spacer to get a few more mils. If you do need a wheel spacer, please get a decent quality one, check that the wheel bolts screw far enough into the hub, and for the love of god keep it to about 5mm spacing max.

As for noticing it, probably not, if you push it hard you'll see a bit more understeer and lose traction quicker with higher profile tyres due to lower sidewall stiffness leading to higher slip angles etc. - may make for a bit of a quieter ride (although the Xantia is quite quiet on the inside anyway).

As long as your xantia is a Hatch with the smaller callipers at the front then yes you be fine

I dont think 14" wheels fit over estate front calipers or 2.1 or v6 or hdi callipers..and later 1.9 td cars with larger discs i think will be a problem too

Go with last comment as early zantys where 14's estates are 283mm disc's on front so 14's won't fit from what ive seen bx/zanty's are same rims.
Have you a saloon or estate? the 195/65/15 are the best size for estates as bring speedo correct norm have 185 pug's go up a size ie 185 to 195. but are cheaper than smaller size as more mainstream.same as Zafira's also.
Plus you can't downsize wheel sizing with mot etc
