Alt off! managed to remove inter pipe; had visions of something breaking!! Will use googled test procedure after tea. Your procedure is excellent. only had to remove tensioner, ECU box, a/c plug, inter pipe and move wiring tray (inner wing liner already off). How you managed the second one in 15 mins though is beyond me - even 1 hour seems like a minor miracle - and I hope I don't have to find out!!

It's easy when you've just done it, all the bolts come easily, all the spanners are to hand, and you know what size to reach for
I was extremely peed off though when the replacement was essentially DOA, and I had to take it out again and make a 60 mile round trip to get it replaced

Gentlemen, Many thanks for all your wisdom in trying to assist. I'm dam**d if I know what caused the problem (may have been a transient when the pulley momentarily came free then continued to drive the alternator - must have been very jerky) as it was still charging when I got it home. However, took a flyer and purchased a brush/regulator pack from Latvia. Came within 3 days( made in the UK! £56), and that got it working. I seem to be on 2 threads, but as was said, replacement is so mush faster having removed it. Just rear callipers to free off and MOT, when I can free up the time. Thanks to all. Your wisdom conquers all!
