is this part fitted to more than 1 car?

Post by john »

mk1 berlingo 1.4 petrol

Image

part no 1351 CT

replaced my rad and i made an ar$e or removing this hose on my old 1, its now has a small leak coming from the join, my local scrapie only has berlingos that have different hoses  , so im hoping there were fitted to other model of cars.

its 1 of those quick release jobbies, was thinking about trying to use PTFE tape but dont think that'd do much good.

Which joint are you talking about ? if its the bottom hose to radiator one some Xantias, ZX, 306, 406 cars use that type of joint, you might get away with replacing the O ring ?

may try those thanks, its damn tight down there and trying to push the hose in is a struggle even with my small hands, are u meant to leave the clip in place and push the hose on or push the on then put the clip on?

you need to lub the seal on the neck of the nose with the like of Vaseline,
and i would leave the wire clip off till the hose if fully home,

its a horrible idea

my late MK1 XANT has the same type of fitting, when i fitted a new rad, i could not get the old hose to seal and bought a new hose at around £40 quid

Because it takes more time to fit in the factory, lots of things are designed to make it easy and cheap to manufacture rather than easy to maintain.

if the metal seal carrier on the end of your hose is in good order ( not all rusty ), it might pay to at least buy a new seal which is No. 3 in your drawing above

Part Number Description Quantity Price excl. VAT Price incl. VAT Total incl. VAT Selection
00001343Z4 END-PIEC GASKET 0.64 GBP 0.77 GBP 0.77 GBP

bottom hose from citroen which should come with new seals is cheaper than ebay

Part Number Description Quantity Price excl. VAT Price incl. VAT Total incl. VAT Selection
00001351CT WTR OUTLET HOSE 34.43 GBP 41.32 GBP 41.32 GBP

When I last came across this, I binned the crap rad, and fitted an earlyer "Proper" Rad and top and bottom hoses, because I had them spare...

This arrangement cant of worked well, or they recived loads of moans for leaks etc, it was deleated on S2 Xantias, and they went back to "Normal" hose clips again..

I doubt moans (even from dealers) would have had any effect. I suspect the reason for reverting to a conventional arrangement was the cost of warranty claims. Nothing concentrates the minds of the bean counters as giving back money! :-D

I have located a spare S2 Xantia bottom hose in my spares pile, unfortunately the very end where the rubber seal sits is corroded away in places, the ID of the hose comes out at approximately 35mm so if you can obtain an intact metal end then a splice would not be out of the question.
