C5 air con

Post by Danbuoy »

Hi, I have a 58 reg C5 2.0 VTR, which was not cooling down inside at all. Took it to the garage who found it needed a new condenser. Sorted problem for just over a week, but yesterday and again today, despite the AC being set to "LO" the air coming out of the vents just doesn't feel very cold. It is slightly cool at best. I am wondering if the new condenser has failed, or whether it could be something else. Car is still under warranty (bought in March) so will probably ring the garage on Monday, but just thought I'd ask on here first!

A common problem on these cars is failure of the low pressure pipe (large one) where it runs out of the compressor, on mine there was a very small pin hole located behind the heat bandage making it difficult to spot using a sniffer. If when the system was re-charged a dye was put into the system it should be quite easy to spot the leak using a UV torch and glasses.

Had my system checked and re gassed a week after buying because of the same problem. Air was cold, but not icy cold as a/c should be. Had no problems with it since then (July 1012)

The guy that came to fill my aircon after I replaced the condenser also said that the low pressure pipe was a common failure. I think he said that one problem was that they were too short and/or had too tight a radius so were normally replaced with slightly longer ones. I'm only going on what he said though.
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(
