Troubles with my Lexia Clone

Post by beko1987 »

Evening all!

I bought a Lexia clone from ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181175468514? ... 1497.l2649 to try and sort my XM out

Following the instructions it said use XP, so I duly made a vmware install with XP, and installed diagbox 7.2. Wouldn't activate using the provided patch. Tried several different re-installs and patches, and nothing (Laptop wifi turned off throughout all this.)

Got annoyed, so installed it on the laptop itself (Win7 64bit) and it worked first time! Hurrah! Was too dark to go out then to plug it in, and I was out last night so tonight, I came home from work, and went and sat in the XM with it all...

Plugged everything in, loaded up Diagbox and chose XM. Then got 2 options, XM and XM Multiplexed. I tried both, both with the same outcome...

Entered the RPO and VIN number when prompted (was not prompted for RPO on multiplexed option), and the next screen asked me to choose Lexia or Scantool. I clicked Lexia and...

Buggar all, it just refreshed to the same page. I tried it with ignition off, ignition on, ignition on and pin entered, and engine on. I tried getting to the screen where I choose Lexia, unplugging and plugging it back in again. Windows recognises it, the green light comes up on the box so it's getting power.

Anyone been through this before? Is there a certain order to do things in? I'm so close to interrogating my car!

It'll be down to being Win7 64bit.... Lexia is a 16bit application, which is not supported on 64bit at all... You need to run XP in a VM (I use VirtualBox rather than VMWare though) for it to work on 64bit.
Also things to make sure with XP:
- It's running SP3
- all windows updates are installed
- it's XP Pro (from what I've seen on here XP Home doesn't work).

A couple of things are tripping you up here.

The first is that although Diagbox will work on 64 bit windows Lexia will not as it is a 16 bit application and 64 bit windows cannot run 16 bit applications at all. Hence it doesn't launch when you click the Lexia button.

So installed natively on 64 bit windows you would only ever be able to diagnose very new cars which are diagnosed entirely within Diagbox, but not any car that required Lexia, that's obviously no good, so you'll need to go back to a virtual machine with a 32 bit version of Windows in it.

Although it will work on Windows 7 32 bit, if you're going to the trouble of using a virtual machine it might as well be Windows XP as that has the best compatibility and least system resource requirements...

Your second problem may be due to having your wifi adaptor turned off, or due to incorrect configuration of the virtual network adaptor in your virtual machine.

Diagbox won't activate unless it detects an Ethernet or wireless network controller on the machine - they don't have to be connected to anything but one must be present. (you can leave the ethernet cable out, and disconnect from your wifi but don't disable the wireless adaptor or ethernet adaptor in windows)

Because you're running a virtual machine its the virtual network adaptor within the VM that Diagbox needs to see working - although I haven't used Diagbox in a VM I would say your best bet is to enable bridging mode for the virtual network adaptor in the VM and bridge it to your wireless adaptor, as you will at some point need internet access working in your virtual machine.

There is actually no harm in having the internet connection to the VM working while you run Diagbox, provided you say NO when it asks if you want to check for updates, which it will do each time you launch. If you do want to turn the connection off, just temporarily disconnect from the wireless network but don't disable the wireless adaptor.

Ben82 runs Diagbox under a virtual machine (although he uses Sun VirtualBox) so he may be along soon with more advice.

One other thing to do is make sure you have your VM set up to pass full control of the USB device through to the VM so that Diagbox can see the interface. Check you have an ACTIA multifunction device showing up in device manager within your VM.

Finally if you think your installers might have issues here is a known good download link for a pre-patched copy of 7.02 through 7.15: (no manual patching required)

Simon gives some excellent advice :) If you do have XP Pro, and still struggle to get it to work in VMWare/VirtualBox, at a stretch I could possible provide a copy of my VM (if I remember it's about 8Gb so wouldn't be a small download) that you could run in VirtualBox.. I think it's running Diagbox 7.08 or so (can't remember, haven't updated it in a long time), but would be fine for your XM.

Great advice Simon. The VM ware had a naked install of xp sp2, so will go back in and run all updates, and disconnect from the WiFi rather than kill the WiFi card on the laptop.

Will report back! Ben, if you could get it uploaded I can download it, would be great if you could as a backup!

Re: Troubles with my Lexia Clone

I'm glad this thread has been brought up I have just setup an old laptop with win xp service pack 3, I have also been given a lexia from a friend who bought it for one job and never used it again :)

He can't remember if it was a Chinese clone or a genuine one though, but the box is from a UK address and its 2 years old so fingers crossed.
I tried downloading diagbox and all the other software needed but most links where dead, I did find a lexia 4 which is Russian but haven't tried it yet, I ended up buying the disk from an eBay seller over the weekend which I'm still waiting for so hopefully soon I can get it all set up and running.

Hope you didn't pay too much for the disk as the software can be downloaded for free! :)

Hopefully we can get sorted together then! My software consists of 2 dvd's, one with Peugeot planet and the other with diagbox 6 and 7. Even the instructions are a bit pants!

I know what you mean about all the links being dead, £15 doesnt seem too bad if it works, saves alot of hassle!

Right. Files downloaded as link above. I've got part 1, 2 and 3. Installing part 1 fine, part 2 doesn't like it and tries to overwrite it. I pressed cancel, and loaded up the diagbox that had installed.

Files say it's already patched

Get the activation, enter the code and boom, authentication 0 error again.

Anything I'm doing wrong with the files? All are about 1.09gb unzipped

Parts 1,2,3 are a three part rar archive that you'll need to extract with winrar, (just open the one with .rar extension) which will extract to a single iso image. You then need to either burn the iso image to a DVD and install off the DVD, or mount with an iso mounting utility such as the free "MagicDisc". If you try to just extract the files from the iso image to a folder and install from there it won't work.

BTW in the word document there is a link to a youtube video that shows the install process step by step, have you tried following that ?

I did watch it, will re watch and pay better attention to that part. Do you know the overall end size iso I should be looking at? I reckon about 3.5gb.

I'm using daemon tools rather than dvd's. Will have another go later, washing the xm at the minute!

Cheers for your help. It's a shame it's now working, was Hoping to catch the eml light whilst it was on!
