Fitting Xantia front window clip

Post by evilclive »

My front window went pop today - it's fallen off the winder.

I've got the green clip and rubber grommet as seen in this thread

http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... ow#p273682" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and also the metal clip bit.

I've replaced the clip once before (rather more annoying, the thing was unwound), and all I remember about refitting the window to the clip was that it was an utter pig.

I can't remember which order things go in - anybody able to remind me?

No, my only recall of the job is that it's a bit of a devil...

I'm not really sure what you mean by order of things? Can you elucidate a little further?

Fit rubber grommet in first in window glass, fit window glass and grommet onto white plastic ball on window mechanism then push metal clip to secure.

The metal clip goes on the window glass side,
make sure the clip is already inserted halfway into the rubber before inserting into the glass.
The clip can be really difficult to push into place, I replaced one the other day and found an easy way to push the clip home!
With the clip & rubber located, I rotated the clip so it faced the front of the door.
I then got a small flat peice of wood, about 2"wide x 1" high & 5-6" long,
I then reached into the door with one hand holding the wood, through where the speaker is normally located.
I then slid the wood block along the glass until it touched the clip.
Once in place you can push the wood against the clip making it easy to install the clip.
I had the window down so that the clip is visible near to the window regulator.
I hope this helps? :-D
