rumbling in Xantia TD

Post by xantiaBFY »

hi,
this has been discussed in various forms but I would to present my situation.
This particular noise occurs when the engine is being revv up around 1100 to 1400 only.Out of this small range all the noises are the normal ones.
I have change the timing belt, roller tensioner, check the mountings but to no avail.[:(]
This weekend thinking of checking all bolt and nuts near the engine.any thoughts.
regards[:)]

BFY, why don't we meet up and find out what's the problem. Perhaps it could be a common problem of XTD. Has it developed recently? Did you send to the workshop or any DIY prior to that noise coming up?

Have you tried a mechanics stethoscope? Wonderful tool for tracing odd noises.

By mechanics stethascope do you mean "length of garden hose" or "large screwdriver" or "anything else long and solid that you could find" or a proper mechanics stethascope?

It might help to pin down the cause if you ran the engine with the auxilary belt removed.

hAD A RUMBLING IN MINE THE OTHER DAY. THOUGHT THE EXHAUST WAS LEAKING. It happened to be that the screws holding the air filter housing together had come loose, tightened them up and the rumbling went.

Mine had a rumbling sound when the alternator bracket almost broke off and the belt was coming off. When it totally broke off, no more driving. It wasn't an original thick piece, rather 2 thin pieces put together. Had to custom make a thick bracket to hold the alternator in place.
