Parking sensor advice please

Post by Bandit12 »

Been driving my C5 exclusive automatic for a few months now and love it!

However I noticed an intermittent fault with the reverse sensors. Occasionally on selecting reverse the warning module gives a constant tone regardless of how far away or close I am to any rear obstacles. This tone does not change until a forward gear is selected when it turns off. Sometimes selecting reverse again it will work properly and sometimes not.
Was wondering if this was a common prob that can easily be fixed ( a sticky switch which can be cured with a quick squirt of WD40 he asks hopefully:-)). When Ben 82 put the car on his lexia a couple of months ago we did not notice any error codes relating to it.

I have noticed the problem was quite frequent when I first picked up the car and is now very occasional but still annoying.

Any help/ideas are always gratefully received

I take it you have cleaned the sensors from road dust etc. Don't know if yours are distance adjustable or not' but I think mine are on the x7

Yes the parking sensors are regularly cleaned along with rest of the car. The distance is fixed to give intermittent beep from 1.5 metres and a solid beep from half metre.

It had a tow bar fitted professionally last year. Got lots of paperwork from some towbar and caravan specialist giving towbar and fitting costs and even got some wiring diagrams thrown in. I do not think the tow bar is an issue as the system works properly most of the time just plays up occasionally.

Someone on here had an intermittent problem too, but only while reversing down his drive. I think the sensors might have been tilted slightly downwards, and were picking up a response from the ground where the end of the drive changed angle to meet the pavement. My system shows which sensor is tripping the alarm, which means I know if one is not performing correctly.

Random thought, could it be something that's cured by the good ol' curer of a lot of electrical ailments...the BSI reset?

Can't remember if it's something handled by the BSI or not though.
