Xantia HDI water pump bolts

Post by harryp »

Gentlemen,
Following the disintegration of the composite crankshaft pulley (125000 miles) (and an interesting recovery from Pembroke to Telford), I am replacing said pulley, both belts, all idlers, tensioners and water pump; also as it off the road, both handbrake cables (split outers), CV cover, both P bushes and lower ball joints( in an effort to cure a mystery rattle previously posted). The car has been awaiting attention for some time and the box containing the bits got upset! All seemed to be going well until the long set screw that affixes water pump and covers. The set screw I have, measures 40mm under head and measuring the various covers I reckoned it ought to be around 37mm. I do not want to cause an expensive mistake due to my ignorance! Can any one tell me what the correct length should be? I don't know whether the bolt I have is the correct one or whether it fits somewhere else as I progress.
Thanks and best regards to all on this very informative forum.
Harry

One of the water pump bolts doubles up as the lower upper cam belt cover securing bolt and has an 11mm head as apposed to the the cover bolts being 10mm.. its the one at the back adjacent to the bottom hose where it goes into the rear pipe junction..

Thats the only one i beleve is longer then the rest but for its actual length i couldnt tell you.

Sorry rather useless info really..

service.citroen says:

6922 85
01
SELF LOCKING SELF-TAP SCREWS
DIAM 7X100-40

Whereas the remainder of the water pump bolts are shown as:

6923 80
04
SELF LOCKING SELF-TAP SCREWS
7X100-18

So your 40mm looks right.

Thanks to CitroenXM and RichardW for the information - that was quick gents!! 40mm it is then and is a standard size and not a special. This site never ceases to amaze with its wealth of real information! BTW, no information is useless as it at least confirms things, and can point out errors, that's how we learn?!!!
Thanks again,
Harry

Hello all again,
Have another bolt problem......... HDI 110.
Having inserted the long cover bolt - forward lower on intermediate cam belt cover - It bottoms out with 10mm to go. Length is 40mm but seem to remember the one I removed (months ago) was shorter??? Any chance some kind soul can peek at service.citroen for me (RichardW??). How do you access service.citroen ? Looks like Citroen only, or is there a cunning work round?
Many thanks,
Harry

Further to my last post, I contacted the local(!) parts unit at Shrewsbury. They list the bolts, but all appear to end in 40. He did not seem to know about service.citroen saying that they work on an internal system. So am stumped at the moment!!

Harry

service.citroen is basically the system the dealers use. I'll send you a picture of it tomorrow, but I think you've put the bolt in the wrong place. You can use it - just register, ignore the bit about pros only, make up a VAT number, and away you go.

Richard,
Many thanks for the info - that will ease future parts enquiries!!! Btw, what the hell is "the de-cap"...? Am I being a little thick - if so it must be the weather, now that we have some of it!. I think we need a "Confessional" thread so that some of us do not re-invent the wheel.Tried putting the engine top mount on, then realised I should have done it before the upper and intermediate covers went on. (OK it has been some time since I took it apart!!) Yes it is buried in Haynes under "dismantling", but I thought they could have made a point of it on re-assembly for those of us who are sometimes mentally challenged! I will have to put it down to a "senior moment" then.

sorry for delay, did not see msg in all the rubbish I seem to be getting. Have not got on yet, but think I may have cross threaded the bolt initially as it looks a little droopy!! Have purchased some and shortened one by stages. Not enough room to run a tap down it.
