The Riddle Of The XM Leaking Boot

I thought it was just me, a poor unfortunate with a leaky XM boot.
It turns out on further investigation to be a common fault, but guess what?
No answers.
It's still as predictable, get a little rain and then open the boot and on the right hand side near the rear light cluster is my ever returning pool of water and just to add insult to injury, a damp carpet as well.
It's a riddle for sure, because I just can't tell how it's getting in.
Someone help........pleeeease.

Don't know a lot about the back end of an XM, but water ingress from behind the light clusters is a common problem. Take the light out and check the conditon of the seals on the back.

Blueboy is right, water leakage into the back of XM's is almost always past the rear light clusters.
