Xantia Matrix Question
My new Matrix has arrived, I am just getting my courage up to dive in, I have read and re-read the thread on the job and would like to know whether the O rings mentioned , pn 6464 V1 are for connecting the joint under the bonnet ? or inside the car ?

Re: Xantia Martix Question
The connection to the pipes in the engine bay are already on the matrix arent they??
The trick is seperating the engine bay pipes from the matrix.. they get brittle and break.. i have a couple if you are unfortunate.
May i sugest to get them free is to warm the engine to generate some cooling system pressure then with a long screw driver behind the plastic manifold push the spring clip across and gently lever the pipes outwards VERY GENTLY...
Theres two O rings on the pipes that you will see when removed..

Re: Xantia Martix Question
Thanks for the tip, I have a distant memory of taking them out in pieces using needle nose pliers when someone brought me a pre broken Xantia petrol many years ago, nasty overcooked plastic, access to these looks pretty decent on the HDI, I may even resort to cutting the old matrix end off in order to preserve the plastic hose ends.

Re: Xantia Martix Question
Yea luckilly the hdi is a lower engine so its not too bad.
Not sure when you have the dash out if you have seen my other tip.. split the heater box inside the car just after the air con evaporator theres two ten mm bolts this saves the neex to remove the ait con pipes and the second 10mm nut in the engine bay when it come to pulling the heater box forward to get the matrix in..
Ps i cant remember are you north wales or south.. if you need a hand and your north give us a shout. Done a fair few now.

Re: Xantia Matrix Question
Thank you for the offer, fingers crossed I will have all of the little bits next week, I may well disconnect that part first, I will give it a spray with WD40 tomorrow and let it soak in, I am over near Wrexham, where are you ?

Re: Xantia Matrix Question
dont use that W stuff it is NOT a penetrating fluid,
also as the manifold connector is plastic into plastic i dont think squirting with anything is going to help,
i disconnected the engine cay connector by threading a length of auto electrical flex through the center bridge of the manifold,
then whilst you hold the spring steel blade in the unlatched position pull the manifold away with the flex,
worked for me anyhow,
in refitting with the new O rings in place i squirted them with silicon spray to aid them sliding back home

Re: Xantia Matrix Question
Malcolm, that's a good method to use some wire on the bridge and do a straight pull...
It can help to have the engine as hot as possible so there's maximum pressure in the cooling system.
Never use a metal tool behind it as that can cause damage. I know, been there.
It helps enormously too to get as much access as possible to the connector and in this respect the HDi is already good. The Turbos are all bad and really need the turbo pipes moving before trying..
If any sealant (except Forte Stop leak) has been used in the system I find from experience that this stuff seems to weld the connector together and make it very difficult indeed to successfully separate.

WD40 is a bit harsh and doesn't really work well on plastic. Duck oil is better but I found Baby oil eased it away. A blunt round ended knife was my friend.
