when we got my daughters synergie it had a loose N/S front swivel pin,
which we ended up fitting a second hand hub that seemed to be ok and got it through the MOT,
flippin things gone loose again, seems to be a common fault on these,
so apart from welding the hub to the swivel pin what is the long term fix

Re: Synergie recurring problem
Is that the lower balljoint ? is it the non taper type with a pinchbolt ? a la ZX ? If so I would be quite tempted to buy a nice new strong bolt and tighten to four white knuckles.
BXs since 1993 built 1.9 TZD turbo, got a S2 Xantia estate, brilliant car! 2013, Xantia HDI LX 110 2000 new car with 122,000, l C2 HDI Rusty rocket, C3 Picasso HDI new to me.
Re: Synergie recurring problem
not bought a nice new strong bolt yet, but did give it a bit more with my 2 foot knuckle bar
trouble is if you give it to much welly you could fracture the cast iron hub

Re: Synergie recurring problem
nudge nudge
has anyone ever permanently fixed this fault,
short of welding the BBBBB ball joint to the hub

Re: Synergie recurring problem
I am probably wrong but i think there may have been the possibility of 2 different ball joint pins. The pinch bolt as far as I remember is an M10 8.8 bolt. If you want to be able to really welly it up replace it with a 12.9 bolt. They usually come in socket cap format.

thanks for that,BX wrote:I am probably wrong but i think there may have been the possibility of 2 different ball joint pins. The pinch bolt as far as I remember is an M10 8.8 bolt. If you want to be able to really welly it up replace it with a 12.9 bolt. They usually come in socket cap format.
but i would not feel happy straining the case iron hub/pinch clamp to much, as it then risks fracturing it,
bin thinking why it keeps recurring,
it might be the lower swivel has worn into its cup/seat to much, so struggles to rotate with the steering being turned,
any more suggestions
