help! rough running after timming belt change 2.0 hdi
ive changed fuel pump put timming belt on and started her....running like on 3 cylinders and puffin white smoke....have i got a jammed injector?...checked water and oil all good also eml on and have fault codes for fuel pump primary circit...
any help would be great

Firstly it wont be a pump timing error as the pumps are not timed at all on the Hdi. Its all done by ecu triggering the injectors in the correct order.
My guess is your cam to crank timing setting is out. Take the engine back to Tdc and try and put your timing pins in the cam sprocket ( at 7 oclock roughly) and in the crank hole behind the starter. Both sbould go in easyilly.

Is the cam pulley the type with the three bolts or the single bolt in the middle ? If its the type with the three bolts did you make sure they were loose when tensioning the belt ? If you don't it can pull the pulley round when tension is applied to the belt & knock it out slightly.

well took it all apart..timmed it up perfect and yes i left the cam pully bolts loose once i tightened the tensioner....put all bk together and still the same...apart from eml is now off...
whilst taking out the glow plugs i did notice 2 were wet..might have been on compression stroke...
anymore ideas guys?

yes ive turned crank back (wen cam removed)to time engine as belt was off...also cam sensor?how to set?

well went through elimination process today disconecting the electrical plugs from injectors 1 by 1 and no4 didnnt make a difference so ive taken it out and now need to get another one....are they all the same?

Before buying an injector swap it with the one next to it and see if the fault moves.. if not then the fault is electrical.
Dont worry these systems are not that sensitive you can move them around with no effect..
All 8v 2.0 90bhp and 110bhp ones are the same yes..

yea just tried that and still the same...the end off the injector is like its been polished and no visible holes...like metal fillings from the broke pump have welded it closed...luckly my friend who has the engine i aquired the pump off has injectors....but do they need codeing?

Now now.. slow downm i might be wrong yet.. but all this injector swapping never caused me any problems.. so lets see if we can sort yours too..
