Xantia - replacing front brake flexi hoses

Post by Jaf »

Hi guys, changed the front brake pads yesterday and noticed the front brake flexi hoses have started to crack. Have got new ones on order from AEP as local shop can't get them. Changed the rear suspension spheres too, thanks for the super guide!

The join to the caliper looks standard but where it joins onto the metal brake pipe looks a bit funny. I can just change the flexi pipe can't I? Am just a bit concerned that in a week the new pipes will arrive and I'll have to order another bit! I I had the new pipe in my hand I'd be fine, the unexpected perils of living in the middle of nowhere with no decent spares shops.

Thanks!

Its conventional at the other end but you undo the union on the metal pipe just after the spring clip.. its a 12mm IIRC.. but WARNING.. use a b l o o d y good union spanner and NOT an open ended spanner because for some reason the ten or so i have done in the past about two where easy the rest were either so tight arnie swarchnegger had done them up or that tght they rounded and i had to resort to mole grips..

But panic not it is conventional with a conventional flared end too....

I'll agree with all you say Paul..

On very, very stubborn ones I've found the tool in the picture below very effective as it will grip the 12mm hex in its jaws almost perfectly...
