Has anyone changed one of these? Any tips? Looks like it's wipers and panel below screen removal necessary?

Buy a blanking plate from eBay, and never worry about it again.

(It might even run better too)

Thanks - I do think that would be a good option - but how to get to the thing even to fit a blanking plate? Are there any short cuts? Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the C8 layout, only the C5 arrangement I'm afraid. In that version it's really easy to get to the egr outlet / inlet manifold junction to put a plate in. If it's anything like the earlier Picasso variant of the Xsara you have my sympathies re egr access. However on the practical side, if you think it would help I certainly wouldn't mind taking some shots of the C5 layout to give you an idea of where things are if access is blocked on the C8????? I'm assuming here that the ancillaries here are pretty similar. Sorry I can't be of more help. Any body out out there done this?

Just blank it at the inlet manifold side, on the 16v HDi the pipe goes round the front ?

I think inlet blanking is not a bad idea where possible as generally it seems to be slightly easier to get at on most, plus where there is a coolant tube passing through the EGR pipe it will still get this benefit, ie the exhaust will help to warm the coolant a bit quicker.

Some models (not sure which) have the blanking plate with a slotted hole so you can loosen rather than remove the bolts, although I may be thinking of something else.

Blanking it is probably a good idea on most diesel cars though in my opinion as they only coke up, and if / when they stick slightly open all the time due to said gubbins inside them that's when the running issue fun starts.

What are the benefits of blanking of the EGR?
how do you know you need to blank it of?
