Xantia broken in to :(

Post by lankytim »

Went to go to work this morning and found this lovely modification..

Image

Nothing taken by the looks of it but the door is wrecked. I've never seen another Xantia in this light green colour either, so it looks like paint will be needed on a new door. All in all quite an expensive morning thanks to some sticky fingered scum.

Agree with the above.

Any chance you could lower the electric window and try and bend it back. Had the same thing happen to an old escort of mine outside the house, there was no crease in my door though so may not be possible for yourself.

Will check, but think I have a complete drivers door in white if its any good to you??

Commiserations - I always thought one benefit of running an older car was that it didn't attract the scumbags. Hope you manage to fix it without too much hassle or cost

I have bent the top of the door back to make it secure but it still looks a mess. The door has dropped too so it hits the rear door when closing. How much would you want for the door Gricey?

Let me double check its the drivers door first. (Got one, but cant remember if drivers or passengers)
If its the drivers how does £20 sound?

Sorry to see that :(

I've only seen that 'method' for want of a better word used by the scumbags on 3 door cars before not on 5 doors. I guess its silent though (assuming no glass breakage) :(

Foo Kin Bastards more like?

Why would idiot breaking into a Xantia? Just goes to show how dumb some people really are!

Is it something special like a V6 or did they target something left in there?

Think I might have a door, not in that colour, and I am only in Nottingham so not too far. Have to wait until I get back from Austria though. Let me know if of use.

It happened to me in Liege/Leuven (depending on where you're from) on our way to Spa for the 1982 GP at just about 1am... great....just stopped to get some money from the bank.. parked the car in a busy street.. well lots of take-aways.. though it would be safer there...I remember saying "that sounds like my car alarrm.. no it can't be"... we were only 200m away round a corner!!
It took us ages to figure out that the hotel du ville where the police were located wasn't an hotel!!! :-)
I had to use my trainer to bend it back into shape as it was raining ... took it to a main dealer who were supposed to replace the door...all they did was repaint it.. I didn't find out till a few years later the top paint started to flake off.. its still black and silver to this day .. no matter how many times I try to touch it up.
My sympathies...I removed the connection with the door lock, inside the door, after that so that if anyone did try again all they'd get is a bit of plastic and hopefully the sound of the alarm would have time to get someone interested.

Thanks for the offer of doors. The cheaper the better as i'm skint at the moment! I do make regular trips to Nottingham- I have been quoted £150 to have it painted but I could just drive round with an odd door, "inbetweeners" style! It was in for MOT today too and failed on a suspension pipe, so that's more expense that I can't afford. My Allegro is being resprayed at that has drained me financially. I feel like giving up on cars altogether and catching the bus at the moment!

It's not exactly an expensive car but I think I know the motivation behind it. I live on a main road and i'm often seen tinkering with cars on the drive, people walking past are always nosing to see what i'm up to! The culprits emptied out the contents of the boot and left the rest of the Xantia untouched, so I'm assuming them thought I had something of value in there, tools or similar. Luckily I didn't this time!

Can anybody smarter than me say if this is the same colour as my Xantia? I've spotted a semi-dead one on e.bay I could pilfer for spares.

MINE.

I know mine is a fairly odd colour but this does look similar, I suspect that it's actually the more common darker shade however.
