Door lock C5 mk1 question?

On a few occasions when unlocking the car the drivers door remains locked, a few presses of lock/unlock usually gets it to open or have to open from the inside. Get to my destination and all working.

Can be fine for week and then play up several times a week,
is this a common fault?
is a new lock needed?
does lock need some WD40?
could it be wiring?

Oh and are all the door locks the same on all mk1 models does having an alarm make a difference?

I have had the same problem on my C5 a couple of times. It always turns out to the locking mechanism, I also found the same on my old xsara.

The solution is to replace it, I always get a scrapyard one, but given that it is a fairly common problem if you can stump up for a new one then it should last longer before breaking again. The locks are all the same model to model (obviously not door to door though).

I had the same symptoms that you describe last time with mine, sometimes it works, sometimes it didnt. When it is in this state be careful as I also found it caused the locking to play up such that sometimes it would lock of its own accord. I found this out whilst defrosting the car windows with the only key inside,engine running and me outside.

Fairly quick and painless job to do, but make sure you have some spare doorcard clips as you will probably break a few taking it off.

Thanks for help just ordered from dealer, no messing around with second hand ones as looking to keep the car for a while. Got load of door clips from ebay the other week.

hi waynedance whats the price on a new door lock mine has started to do this now and again have to hold rear door open and press lock on remote to get drivers door to open.

Hi I believe it was approx £69+vat.

Getting mine done as I can not stand to have faults on my car and it is so 80's to have to put the key in the door.....
