Hi all,
I have a strange problem that doesn't seem to be covered elsewhere.
Xsara Picasso 57 plate 1.6HDi
Using my keyfob (with recent new battery), I can sometimes open and close the doors remotely and sometimes not. I've started to notie it often doesn't work first thing but then works later, perhaps when the car has warmed up in the sun!
Assuming the keyfob works, where can I find the receiver unit to check that I haven't got a slightly dodgy connection?
Anyone else had a similar problem?
Any help gratefully appreciated.
Thanks,
Tony

Re: Remote central locking working intermittently
I did have a similar issue with a 54 Picasso, and it was down to the crystal in the keyfob. The problem was getting hold of a replacement crystal of the right size and frequency. IIRC it was something like these;

but you have to be good with a soldering iron to replace it, as it is surface mounted.

Many thanks for the quick reply. I'll investigate and decide if I have the dexterity to try it!

Re: Remote central locking working intermittently
The biggest problem you have is that it is an intermittent fault (and EVERY engineer of any type hates those!). Just because my problem was due to the crystal does not guarantee that you have the same fault. If you have a second key, I would check to see if it works reliably.
Before you get those crystals, make sure they are the right ones. I am going from memory, and it was several years ago.

Re: Remote central locking working intermittently
i had the same problem with my remote on my C8, all i did to cure it was do a full bsi reset, info below, hope it fix's issue for you.
Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off.
Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition.
Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds.
Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.).
Switch on the side lights through the driver's window.
Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality.
Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.
Remove key open & close door test central locking system.
Start the engine and complete the system's check.

Re: Remote central locking working intermittently
Many thanks for the replies once again.
Since the replies I took the key apart and noticed that it seemed that sometimes when I pressed a button the mechanism may have been moving away from the button inside the fob.
Since playing around with how it was seated, the fob has worked almost all the time. I'll keep this page bookmarked in case the problem returns and try your suggestions then.

Re: Remote central locking working intermittently
i would check firstly the connection of the fob/plip battery, then the PCB for bad solder joints, before replacing anything
