bought a cruise control stalk for the c5 what next?

Post by boristhespie »

Okay bought a cruise control stalk off of ebay. Said it was for C5 Mk 1, part no. 96 417 964 80.

Just arrived and with label saying c5 2.2 hdi. Mines is a 110bhp 2 ltr Hdi. Looks the same part.

Question 1: will this be ok with my car?

I take it I cut hole in wheel surround and slot it in?

Question 2: How and Where do I check I have the switches needed?

Question 3: what do they look like?

Question 4: then I program it via Lexia?

Question 1: will this be ok with my car?
All the mk1 CC stalks are the same

I take it I cut hole in wheel surround and slot it in?
Yes there is a 'weak' point in the surround where you cut it, I would advise not cutting it straight away though till you have it all tested & working.

Question 2: How and Where do I check I have the switches needed?
Behind the passenger's glovebox attatched to the brake linkage (the bit that moves when you press the brakes).

Question 3: what do they look like?
A little plunger switch, you will either have one with 4 wires or one with 2 wires. if you have the 4 wire one you don't need to do anything else, if you have the 2 wire one you will also find an 2 pin red connector not plugged into anything, this is where the cruise brake switch goes.

Question 4: then I program it via Lexia?
Yes, in the injection programming menu set RVV to present.

Fantastic help. Thank you. Could have cruise control. Is the plastic surround easy to move to fit in? Technique?

Ok took out glove box. Hate taking car apart. Feel I am not up to it. Darn hidden screw underneath had me for a while. Then the light connector. Anyway left it all out until I asked you guys. From this piccie do I have the switches? I only see one plunger type. Is that the right bit I am looking at. Do i have the requisite switches? I assume 4 wires means yes and its just a case of pluggin in stalk and lexia it?

should have just lowered the carpet below the glovebox if you have a 4 wire switch you should be ready to go once you have switched on rvv in injection menu

I pulled down carpet but never saw switch. I may have seen wires but to tell you the troof, I really don't have a Scoobies what I am doing most of the time.

Do i plug stalk in first and then program or program then plug in? I assumed it was the former.

Of course I put the glove box back in only to realise the light aint working. Cant recall it working before but I thought I could just pull lense out and replace bulb. But seems you have to take out whole thing. Plus I had a hard time with the connector. Hope I didn t pull it out and knacker it.

Out of curiosity. The cruise control has a switch on the brake. What happens when you press on the accellerator? Does it kick out of cruise control?

No, it just accelerates, then when you lift off it just drifts back down to the regulated speed.

Sigh. I really must put in the effort to fix the cruise control on my V6, I've never owned a car with cruise control before, this one has it but it has never worked! I kind of like the idea, especially on an automatic... :)
