I've no idea Simon  I never actually go to CostCo myself. I have three friends who are members and when I need a top-up of oil, nitrile gloves, blue elephant's bogroll or cans of Rio I ask one or the other and they get and I pay...

The oil is Chevron stuff in 20l drums...

I've just stocked up on filters too...

That's the unit of sale for CostCo oil Simon!!! Think on for what you pay for 20l that'll do four changes and at a fraction of the cost of buying individual 5l cans...

I keep an old 20l drum as my waste oil container... Means I don't have to go to the tip very often..

A vote here for the 20 plastic drums; I also use an "empty" for waste oil/ATF/LHM.

Wurth brake cleaner here is frequently trade priced very well in 20L drums, too.

With only one car needing oil and nowhere to store a 20 litre drum of oil where we're staying, I'll pass.

BTW: seems like opie have another 25% off discount for a limited time again. it's code is MAYHEM, so I'm guessing it expires today. Might be worth having a gander there for some oils that meet the spec for the ES9J4 :) I bought some Shell Helix Ultra 0W-40 during the last 25% discount (along with some ATF). Have yet to use either though.

Ah, well spotted Ben! :) I need some gearbox oil as well so if I can get a 25% discount on both I'll be stoked, and I can order both together.

Looking at their engine oils for my engine here:

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/product-finde ... der-2.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm thinking about Mobil Super 2000 10w-40, which I can get 6 litres (engine+filter needs 5.25 I believe) for about £27 before the 25% off. Anyone used this one before ? It's a semi-synth.

Too late, I've pulled the trigger on the Mobil Super 2000 10w-40, I didn't want to get distracted at work and lose the 25% discount if its only for today. I'm sure it will be fine. :)

6 litres of Mobil Super 2000 + 4 litres of LT 71141 for £56 including VAT and delivery, not bad. =D>

Meca over here suggests that as one of the oils for a xantia v6, (New Life 0W-40, then Super 3000 5W-40, both Fully synth, then the 2000) so I would imagine it's fine.

I decided not to go fully synth with the engine oil this time to keep the costs down a bit. The difference in price will pay for the gearbox additive I wanted to try which is more important IMO. :)

Simon, what do you live in? A telephone kiosk? A bus shelter?

I wonder as it must be microscopic if you can't find space for a 20l oil drum...

The CostCo oil I and others use is called Chevron Supreme Motor Oil 10W/40. It's an SL/CF rated oil so will do equally well for the oil burners and the gas guzzlers...

Simon, I've never known an ES9 take the full 5.25 litres and in my experience of them it's dead easy to accidentially overfill them. I've on once occasion had to loosen a sump plug and let some out...

I refill just under two and a half quarts*, about 4.5l, and this will give oil just visible on the dipstick. Start up, run to fill the filter and then switch off. Then wait ten minutes and then slowly top up until the level is correct on the stick, waiting about five minutes between checks and top-ups...

Beware that the ES9 dipstick can tell porkies, especially just after the engine has run and when the engine has been sitting stopped for a long while. Citroen suggest the ten minutes after the last run is the correct time to check it.

* I measure in quarts because that's what my old oil jug is calibrated in...

Not quite, but we've moved in with the in-laws for most likely a few months, so its a bit cramped. Not just that, drums of oil sitting around will not be looked kindly upon, and cause friction of the kind that oil won't fix ;)

Regarding the quantity of engine oil required, I'm quite happy to have a 1 litre bottle of oil left over spare, I don't like to be without any oil to top up should it be needed. I've just been lucky with this car that it's never needed any engine oil topping up despite a small cam box cover leak. (It's barely dropped on the dipstick in the whole time I've owned it)
