'02 C5 steering rack, which one?

My steering rack started leaking from the pinion seal losing all the fluid.

There are two offered by the local motor factors. One, 2.75 turns lock to lock, the other 3.25 lock to lock. Mine is 3.0 turns lock to lock. No one seems to know what to supply, can anyone here help?

Hi Peter - welcome

There are at least 4 racks depending on engine, age and whether it's got variable assistance or not. If you post up the last 8 digits of the VIN we can look up which one is fitted. If only the pinion valve is leaking, it should be possible to just fit a new pinion valve - or even replace the seals.

If it helps with identification (assuming it's a UK spec model) only models with the V6 petrol engine on the mk1 C5's have variable power steering.

The last eight digits on the VIN are 76317787.

Could you tell me where I might find the seal and pinion kit?
