belt up c5!/leaking suspension

Post by thefrenchconnection »

hi
got a problem i was driving home sunday morning and i suddenly had to brake when i parked up at home i could hear a rattling noise under the bonnet so i investigated and its coming from the belts, while driving today the dash on the car flashed battery charging fault and the guage for the battery on the dashboard stopped working and i could smell rubber burnining but the belts look okay any thoughts please.

Im sure there has been a thread recently about the freewheel pulley on the alternator seizing up such that the alternator fails to either engage of disengage. Given the burning rubber smell you mention I'd suggest that maybe the pulley is seized and the belt is having to rub over it rather than rotating. Have you eyeballed the pulley (with engine running) to see whether it is rotating or not, Sam

Where's it leaking from? A front sphere if it's just the sphere is easy. Or is it the strut - not too hard either, really.

Sounds like it might just be the leak off hose - a rubber pipe about 10mm dia that runs from the bottom of the strut to the inner wheel arch. If your garage can't change one of these, then you need to find a new one  OK, the clip's a bit tricky to close, but do-able with carpenter's pincers. Post a pic if you can and we can confirm diagnosis.

What they mean is they haven't got a clue about Citroen hydraulics, and there's no profit in finding out. If you're not prepared to do it yourself, you need to find a good local Citroen independent.
