front discs

Post by froggy »

Hi, my 1997 Xantia TD, I have just noticed quite a large lip on the edge of the front discs. Iam about to change them, Iam guessing the two torx screws hold the disc on? are they generally easy to free? thanks in advance Terry .

You'll have more fun undoing the caliper yoke bolts. I like an impact driver for that job. It does OK on the rotor screws too.

Got your caliper windback tool handy? Don't forget to open the bleeder screws when winding the calipers in.

Terry

The demon rust often stimulates a bit of creative thought to get discs off.

rusted on discs

This includes my own hacksaw and cold chisel method when all else fails.

Hope yours just follows paragraph 9 section 10.6 of the Haynes Manual

" Unscrew the two brake disc securing screws and withdraw the disc from the hub"

I've had to drill the heads off and once the discs were off unscrew the studs with grips.
Make sure you get the right size replacement discs as many motofactors have the smaller size listed against Jenny and she's R reg.
If you need the smaller discs give me a shout and you can have my extras for a few beer tokens.

Once you have removed the discs, clean up the surfaces of the hubs, and apply a liberal coating of copper slip grease just before you fit the new discs, to help prevent them rusting on in the future. I did when I replaced them on Gracie.

As mine is a series1, will it have smaller discs? I assumed ( stupidly), that there was only one size of disc. I am guessing I will have to measure them? unless there is another option, thanks for all your help, cheers Terry.

Once the retaining screws are out, a three-legged puller applied to the disc and tightened moderately, then tapped with a hammer has always worked for me.

Let me measure them up tomorrow when I get back from work just to confirm the diameter 266mm (I take it you measured yours rather than going by an online list?).
How's £25 for a pair sound?

I'll have to get them weighed and find the cheapest way of getting them to you.
